What book should I read next?
I’m fourteen years old, and I like pretty much anything, as long as the words and phrases used aren’t too obsolete (like in Swiss Family Robinson) and the story is interesting. The following are my personal favorites:
The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis
Children of the Red King by Jenny Nimmo
He Forgot to Say Goodbye by Benjamin Alire Saenz
The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton
Black Beauty by Anna Sewell
Savvy by Ingrid Law
All-American Girl by Meg Cabot
Flipped by Wendelin Van Draanen
Skellig by David Almond
Animorphs by K.A. Applegate
The Five People You Meet in Heaven by Mitch Albom
I’m contemplating reading the Harry Potter series, but I still have a hangover from Children of the Red King, the seventh book of which I’ve just finished (the eighth book is still to come). So, can anyone suggest good books for me?
I also forgot to add (sorry) that I’ve read the first Twilight book, and it was fairly nice, I neither love it nor hate it, but it didn’t compel me to read the rest of the series. I do enjoy the movies, though.
These are some of my personal favourites that I discovered at your age. My sister is 14 too and she’s reading through them now.
Animal Farm/1984 by George Orwell
A Wizard at EarthSea by Ursula K. Le Guin
Gulliver’s Travels by Jonathon Swift
Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte
Looking for Alaska by John Green
Lord of the Flies by William Golding
Northern Lights(The Golden Compass), The Subtle Knife, The Amber Spyglass by Phillip Pullman. So amazing. It doesn’t matter if you’ve seen The Golden Compass movie because it’s just not in the same league as the books.
The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger
The Great Gatsby by Scott. F. Fitzgerald
The Hobbit by J.R.R.Tolkien

Also here’s a list for recommended reading for 14 to 18year olds with a lot of books I’ve read throughout high school that I recommend. Hope that helps. Also if you walk into your local library/bookstore and ask what people your age are buying you can discover some good ones.
